about
Recorded with great care and effort, Hey, I'm Stephen is an honest lens on feelings of depression and the sense worthlessness that comes with it. Suicide is now among the three leading causes of death among those aged 15-44 (male and female) [1] and the rate of suicide in Northern Ireland has increased 18.5% since 2014 [2]. If you suffer from depression, there are people that can help, even though it may seem like no one can.
After talking to lots of friends about my depression, I was taken aback by the number of people I knew who also had experience with mental illness. It's much more common than we admit.
Hey, I’m Stephen
And the first thing I remember when the walls were coming in,
Was the feeling, the appeasing of this old familiar din.
But there’s nothing in a victory when the prize is empty fun,
Oh but I need it, yes I needed to believe I wasn’t done.
There’s the sunlight in my window, and a figure in my bed,
I’ve been looking for a fix to numb the fall,
And every night I wish it all would swiftly end,
As in my head I died again,
Well never again.
And the war was going badly,
When we lost the king to the devil and his whores,
As my body fell to pieces,
You’d be surprised how easy it was to ignore.
And I spent so many years convinced I didn’t make the grade,
Oh I believed it, I believed it, was beyond being saved.
So I consummate my impotence by telling every girl,
“Hey, I’m Stephen, and believe it, I could never rock your world.”
There’s the sunlight in my window, and a figure in my bed,
I’ve been looking for a fix to numb the fall,
And every night I wish it all would fucking end,
'Cause in my head I died again,
Well never again.
Never Again.
Never Again.
Never Again.
